Miguel Tejada Suffers First Loss in Caribbean Series

by Kori Ellis on February 6th, 2008

On Monday, two undefeated teams from the Dominican Republic matched up in the Caribbean Series. Miguel Tejada’s team, the Cibao Eagles, fell to the Licey Tigers by a final score of 5-2.

Licey, which is now the last undefeated team in the Caribbean Series, was led by a great pitching performance by Ramon Ortiz. Ortiz, who was last seen at the big league level with the Colorado Rockies, held Cibao scoreless into the seventh inning. Yordany Ramirez, supplied the needed offense for Licey when he hit a two-run homer late in the contest.

Tejada’s loss was a win for a fellow Astro as the 23-year-old Ramirez was signed by Houston in November.

The Caribbean Series continues on Tuesday for Tejada and his team. The two Dominican teams will face off again on Thursday in a game that could determine the Caribbean Series champion.
